Aundre Bush, 19, was killed after being shot in the head Monday evening in the 1900 block of Southern Street near the Harriett Tubman public housing development, said Chattanooga Police Department spokeswoman Sgt. Jerri Weary.
Police received a call just after 6 p.m. about the incident, Weary said. About 100 people were at the scene when police arrived, she said.
Witnesses told police that a large fight was taking place between two largely female groups when a black male started shooting in the crowd, Weary said. The suspect, who police still are seeking, was described as heavyset and wearing a white T-shirt and black shorts, Weary said.
Bush was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, Weary said.
Onlookers said Bush’s sisters and mother came out to fight and called Bush for backup. Later gunfire broke out and Bush was shot and killed.
This is the 20th homicide of the year in Chattanooga.
