The city is closing the road while workers dig up and move a sewer line in preparation for a state project to widen Shallowford in that area, Van Winkle said.
The city will close the 7600 and 7700 blocks starting at 9 a.m. Thursday, according to a news release from the engineer's office.
Residents and business owners and customers will be able to get through the closed area but through traffic will be prohibited.
Westbound traffic on Shallowford will detour onto Jenkins Road north to Pinewood Drive. The eastbound detour will use Gunbarrel Road south of Igou Gap Road.
