A two-block section of Shallowford Road between Gunbarrel and Jenkins roads will close Thursday and remain closed for about 60 days, Chattanooga Traffic Engineer John Van Winkle said Wednesday.
The city is closing the road while workers dig up and move a sewer line in preparation for a state project to widen Shallowford in that area, Van Winkle said.
The city will close the 7600 and 7700 blocks starting at 9 a.m. Thursday, according to a news release from the engineer’s office.
Residents and business owners and customers will be able to get through the closed area but through traffic will be prohibited.
Westbound traffic on Shallowford will detour onto Jenkins Road north to Pinewood Drive. The eastbound detour will use Gunbarrel Road south of Igou Gap Road.

2 months? I thought this was supposed to be 2 weeks!
Steve Leach should be fired! THIS IS PLAIN OLD PISS POOR PLANNING. We were told September 1, 2011 was the start date and ALL work completed by February 28, 2012. Now they hope to be completed by November 2012? We all got popped in the keister on this deal. It is funny how they seem to keep Jack Benson's road open and clean. Wonder why? Same ole same ole - the tax payers take it up the butt again.
