Copper Basin football player faces child molestation charges

COPPER BASIN, POLK COUNTY - A Copper Basin High School football player has been arrested on charges of child molestation.

According to the Fannin County, Georgia, Sheriff's Office, 17-year-old Chris Phelan has been arrested on child molestation charges.

The sheriff's office says the allegation involves a 12-year-old girl. Georgia does have the "rape of a child" law that Tennessee has. Due to the difference in age, Phelan has been charged with child molestation, which carries a more severe punishment than statutory rape.
