Come to the Hamilton County Fair

IF YOU GO

What: Hamilton County Fair.

When: 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday (rain or shine).

Where: Chester Frost Park, Hixson. Park at Middle Valley Recreation Center, 1900 Crabtree Road, or Northgate Mall, Highway 153 at Hixson Pike, to ride shuttles.

Admission: Free, but shuttle fare is $6 adults, $4 ages 3-12.

HANDICAP PARKING

Automobiles with proper handicap designation will be directed to a parking area in Chester Frost Park, 2318 N. Gold Point Circle, for transport to the fairgrounds. The handicapped person and one other person in the car will be allowed to park for free. Extra passengers will be charged $5 each, regardless of age.

Two other county fairs are on the schedule in the region.

* Coffee County Fair: Continues through Saturday at 99 Lakeview Drive, Manchester, Tenn. Midway by Cumberland Valley Shows. Fair admission: $3 ages 6 and up. http://coffeecountyfair.com.

* DeKalb County VFW Agricultural Fair: 56th annual event starts Monday at the fairgrounds on 18th Street, NE, in Fort Payne, Ala. Continues through Oct. 1. Theme is "Stars & Stripes Forever." This weekend's Hamilton County Fair has all aspects of blue-ribbon exhibits covered from A (agricultural displays) to Z (zinnias and other blooms in the flower show.)

The fair will be held Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Chester Frost Park. Fairgoers must park and ride: drive to either Northgate Mall or Middle Valley Recreation Center, park and catch a shuttle. The shuttle ticket includes your admission into the fair.

In addition to music, craft and food vendors, the Hamilton County 4-H Club is presenting new equestrian performances and educational demonstrations in the Agricultural Arena. The Obedience Club of Chattanooga and ChattaPaws will give dog shows at 2 and 5 p.m. Saturday.

Three stages are scheduled with entertainment from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

"We've got lots of new acts," said Gina Hatler. "On the Community Stage, the JROTC will put on drill exhibitions, and several choirs from Hamilton County will sing Saturday."

Also on the Community Stage will be Center Stage Dance, Alicia's School of Dance and Scenic City Dance on Saturday afternoon; Sojo Chattanooga, Champions Gymnastics, SonRise Gymnastics and Rick Hall Tai Kwon Do on Sunday.
