Eric Robertson has been vice president of the student body council at Lee High School in Huntsville, Ala., and played a role in his church's Easter production last weekend.

His busy senior year also included helping lead the Generals to the Alabama Class 5-A championship game.

He'll be able to concentrate a little more on basketball next year, and he committed Tuesday to play for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

"He's an all-around winner," Lee High coach Greg Brown said. "He can shoot the lights out; he has almost a 3.9 GPA; he's active in school and in the community."

Robertson is a 6-foot-3 guard who averaged 19.2 points and about eight rebounds and eight assists per game while shooting 42.3 percent from the 3-point line. He played three positions for the Generals, who finished runner-up the last two years after winning a state championship in Robertson's sophomore season.

"I decided to go with Chattanooga mainly because of Coach [John] Shulman," Robertson said. "When I went on my visit, I went to his house and he cooked shrimp and corn and a few other things and I got to meet his family."

Robertson chose UTC over Mercer and Wofford. He took official visits to the other two schools before finding that he enjoyed the city of Chattanooga much better than Macon, Ga., or Spartanburg, S.C.

"Chattanooga was way better," Robertson said. "I knew this was where I wanted to be."

Robertson could be competing for a spot in the staring lineup. UTC will graduate four seniors from a team that went 11-21 and 5-13 in the Southern Conference, which opens up fall competition for playing time.

"Playing time was a big factor for me because nobody wants to come and sit," Robertson said. "Being so close with Coach Shulman and knowing that I'll have an opportunity to play early just made it better."

He joins a recruiting class that already includes AAU teammate Farad Cobb of the Atlanta Express, plus GerVaughn McGee and Joshu'a Warren. Robertson's commitment leaves Shulman with one scholarship to offer for the spring signing period, which begins Tuesday.

"I can almost guarantee that Eric will be on the floor," Brown said. "He'll make a difference."
