Sequatchie County baseball pitcher Dakota Hudson has more college offers than wins.

The lanky junior, who has received offers from Mississippi State and Kennesaw State, got win No. 1 of the season as the Indians won 3-1 at Notre Dame.

"His first few games we struggled defensively," Indians coach Aaron Simmons said. "If we do what we're supposed to do, pitching is going to give us a chance."

Tuesday's game was the second close one in as many days for Sequatchie, which was extended to nine innings before pulling out a 3-2 Monday night win at home.

"We have to hold our ground," Simmons said of the race in District 7-AA, which his team leads with a 4-0 record.

He cautioned his team during his postgame talk about what was to come and said afterward, "We won 3-1 and there are a lot of games like that out there. The district [title] is up for grabs."

Sequatchie is the only unbeaten in league play remaining, but Simmons is mindful of upcoming two-game series with Chattanooga Christian, Grundy County and Signal Mountain. The Indians wanted to take at least a little time to enjoy this one, though, because Notre Dame had entered Monday's game with a 2-0 district record.

The Indians earned the win the hard way. The Irish opened the bottom of the first inning with back-to-back hits from Nick Chambers and Pat Ward and scored on an error at third base.

Hudson then shut the Irish down, pitching no-hit ball over the next 5 1/3 innings. He had a season-high 12 strikeouts.

"I could've done better on my location, especially early," he said after walking five and hitting another.

The Indians, who left the bases loaded in three innings, had their troubles with Irish starting pitcher Chambers, scratching out six hits, one of which was Hudson's towering homer that dinged off the top of the net. It was one of two earned runs Chambers allowed in an eight-strikeout performance over 6 2/3 innings.

Sequatchie tied the game in the second. A.J. Houk singled to right-center, Logan Wells moved him over with a bunt, Logan Summers coaxed a walk and Logan Summers got hit by a pitch to load the bases. Hunter Hudson then lifted a sacrifice fly to center.

The Indians got a big insurance run in the seventh. Dakota Hudson walked, Kegan Frederick singled and Hudson came around to score on a low liner that ticked off the center fielder's glove. Simmons then called on Tyler Kilgore, who came on in relief to get Monday's win, and he picked up his second save of the season.
