Marion County authorities are seeking a 34-year-old man in connection with charges of child rape and violation of the Tennessee's sex offender registry, according to detectives.

Joshua Luke Mitchell, who had been living in Marion County for about two months, is wanted in connection with an incident Sunday involving a 4-year-old girl in the Haletown area of Marion County, said Chief Detective Gene Hargis.

Mitchell is listed on sexual offender's registries in Alabama, Texas and North Carolina and is described as a white man, 5 foot 7 to 5 foot 10, weighing between 175 and 190 pounds with blue eyes and blond or strawberry-colored hair, authorities said.

Although the most recent mugshot shows Mitchell with no beard, officials said he now could have a "scruffy" beard. He could be trying to make his way to North Carolina, Ohio or Florida, officials said.
