Dennis gets win No. 700

Tyler McClure pitched a three-hitter and Zach Zarzour went 3-for-5 with five RBIs and two runs scored as Chattanooga State opened its final regular-season series of the 2012 baseball season with a 13-1 win Friday against TCCAA visitor Southwest Tennessee.

The victory was the 700th in the junior college coaching career of Greg Dennis, with 352 now in nine seasons with the Tigers. He had 348 wins in a program he built from scratch at Collin County in Texas.

Jordan McDonald had two hits and three RBIs and Connor Gilbert, Mac Tobin and Tyler Garner also had two hits apiece Friday for Chattanooga State, which hosts the Saluqis in a doubleheader starting at noon today. The Tigers will host the state/region tournament starting May 6.

• Columbia State 9, Cleveland State 0: At Cleveland, Lucas Laster pitched a nine-inning one-hitter as the nationally fourth-ranked visitors won handily in the opener of their TCCAA series.

The Chargers' Dustin Delgado went 4-for-6 with two RBIs, and Derrick Armstrong and Lucas Pippenger combined for four hits and five RBIs. The game was scoreless until the fifth inning, when Armstrong had a two-run single and Pippenger a two-run double.

TWC, Bryan top two

Tennessee Wesleyan and Bryan College finished off their baseball regular seasons with three-game Appalachian Athletic Conference sweeps Thursday and Friday and wound up first and second in the league standings. The AAC tournament starts Tuesday in Kingsport, Tenn.

Wesleyan, ranked seventh in the NAIA, beat visiting Reinhardt 19-1 on Thursday and 8-3 and 7-3 on Friday. Taylor Oldham put the Bulldogs (41-11, 22-2) up 4-0 with a first-inning slam in Friday's first game and Stephen Branca and Jordan Guida also homered, and Tanner Quirk was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs, Thomas Sicking was 3-for-4 and Anthony Boix drove in three runs in the finale.

Drew Levi went 4-for-4 with a homer and five RBIs and Dale Ricketts had a three-run homer in Thursday's game.

Bryan (39-16, 17-7) completed a suspended 7-4 win at Bluefield on Friday and then won 2-0 and 8-7 without coach Taylor Hasty, who stayed behind with his wife and newborn son.

Jason Ridenhour, Kenny Knudsen and Adam Sanders combined on the four-hit shutout as Tyler Latham and Shane Clawson went 3-for-4 and 2-for-4 and scored a run apiece. Latham had a homer and four RBIs in the previous game, and Josh Harris was 2-for-3 with catcher DeWayne Boyd 2-for-4 and pinch runner Zach Hensley scoring twice.

• Lee 5, William Carey 2: At Columbus, Ga., in the Southern States tournament, the fifth-ranked Flames advanced as Jorge Saez went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and Vice Spilker and three relievers combined to pitch a five-hitter with one earned run. Jose Samayoa got his seventh save.
