RIVER GALLERY -- River Gallery, 400 E. Second St., presents an opening reception for two artists. Printmaker Jay Pfeil's creates pieces using multiple plates that create a wide range of colors. Sculptor Beck Gray honors the spirit of her subjects, mostly animals and people, using clay crafted in a primitive style. Opening reception 6:30-8 p.m., Friday. Printmaking demonstration noon-4 p.m., Saturday.

OPENINGS

• This week, The Art Center, 420 W. Main St., Blue Ridge, Ga., will open two new exhibitions.

-- "Appalachian Renaissance," featuring work by members of the Southern Appalachian Artist Guild, will begin with an opening reception 5-7 p.m. Saturday and will continue through May 27.

-- "Spring Plein Air Festival," a juried exhibition of work done in the Blue Ridge area, will run Sunday through May 27.

• Thursday, AVA Gallery, 30 Frazier Ave., will offer an opening reception from 5 to 8 p.m. for "Small Works," an exhibition of work by AVA members. The exhibition will continue until June 16.

CLOSING

• Friday, Chattanooga State Community College, 4501 Amnicola HIghway, will end a juried exhibition of student works in the C.C. Bond Humanities Building.
