Gig Tank winners share $160,000 in prizes

A company that allows researchers to quickly share massive amounts of data over the Internet won the $100,000 "Gig Tank" competition today in Chattanooga.

Banyan, which is based in Tampa, Fla., won the summerlong contest over seven other rival firms competing for the best idea using Chattanooga's gigabit-per-second Internet connection via EPB fiber.

The "Gig Tank" drew businesses and students from around the globe to develop business applications for Chattanooga's unrivaled citywide Internet connections.

Badel Suchi won $50,000 in the Gig Tank student competition. The company provides voice translation in real time in a variety of languages.

Iron Gamer, an amateur video competition organization, won $10,000 from Warner Brothers Digital Media for their business pitch.
