East Hamilton senior basketball guard Tiffany Lewis has decommitted from Georgia State.

Lewis, a three-star prospect by ESPN HoopGurlz, averaged 15.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.9 steals for the Lady Hurricanes in the 2011-12 season. Georgia State was going to have a plethora of guards on the roster for 2013-14, and the 5-foot-7 Lewis was told she would be forced deep into the rotation.

"When we went down for the Elite camp, they told me they had over-recruited at my position," Lewis said. "There were three other guards they didn't think were going to get into school that did, and that left them with nine guards starting next year."

Her mother, Tara Short, said they made the decision that was best for Lewis.

"Georgia State was nice about it. They said they would keep a scholarship open for her, but Tiffany's been working for this since she was 8 years old," Short said. "She's ready to play, and to have an opportunity to play. She still could have gone there, but they wanted her to realize she'd have to sit because they had so many guards."

Lewis also has an offer from Tennessee State and plans to visit Kennesaw State soon. The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Jacksonville, East Carolina and UNC-Wilmington have shown interest as well.

"Georgia State was the only school I visited last time," Lewis said. "I'm planning on taking things for what they're worth this time. I'm going to visit some schools and take my time. I don't have to be signed in November.

"I'm just opening up the process, taking my time and making the decision that's going to be best for me."
