Woman, 7-year-old girl sustain severe injuries after head-on crash in Ooltewah

A woman and her 7-year-old daughter were taken to local hospitals with critical injuries this morning after their vehicle was struck head-on by a pickup truck, according to Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

Claudia Ek, 42, of Ooltewah sustained severe injuries and was trapped inside the 2011 Mazda SUV after the collision at 7:46 a.m. this morning at 6420 Ooletwah-Georgetown Road, sheriff's spokeswoman Janice Atkinson in an email.

Ek was airlifted to Erlanger hospital, while her daughter was taken to Children's Hospital at Erlanger, Atkinson said.

Tracey Trosclair, 35, the driver of the 974 Ford F-350, was treated and released at Erlanger.

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing, Atkinson said.
