It was just one game into his junior football season, yet Bradley Central running back Logan Fetzner should anticipate a precautionary talk from Damon Floyd, his coach.

"It's just one game and he has to continue this," Floyd said. "We don't want him to be a one-hit wonder."

Friday's performance could have flirted with platinum. The junior ran 15 times for 235 yards and two touchdowns and earned Times Free Press Player of the Week honors for his part in the Bears' season-opening win over Polk County.

"He also had 80 or 90 kickoff-return yards," Floyd said, adding that the coaching staff has just begun to scratch the surface with the 6-foot, 195-pounder. He also plays on the PAT and field-goal units and can shine on defense, and he has pretty good hands.

"He didn't catch many passes last year, but he had two or three for touchdowns and one went for 80 yards in the playoffs," Floyd said. "He is one of our best corners, but the way we run him on offense I'd rather he didn't play too much on defense."

Fetzner publicly thanked the Bears' offensive line after his performance, but he picked up a lot of yardage once his blockers got him clear of the line of scrimmage.

"The offensive line did a really good job, but Fetzner had a lot of cutback runs," Floyd said after reviewing video from the 31-7 victory. "Once in the open field Logan was able to make them miss, but he was also lowering his shoulder when needed. He has all the attributes of a good running back."

Floyd feels Fetzner definitely will have a chance to play collegiately.

"We felt last year that he was going to be a good back and told him his time was going to come," Floyd said. "He's a hard worker and he's unselfish. He's one of the stronger guys in the weight room, and he's a great character kid.

"He can play at the next level. He has the speed -- he was [electronically] timed at 4.6 in the 40, and I think he's gotten faster -- and I think the next two years he's going to be a pretty popular name."
