A Collegedale-based developer of senior housing announced plans Wednesday to build two new facilities in Lexington, Ky.

Morning Pointe Senior Living and Independent Healthcare Properties, which already operate five senior centers in Lexington, plan to build two more facilities providing housing and care for those with Alzheimer's disease. The projects will be an additional $18-million investment in the Lexington area and add another 125 jobs, company president Greg A. Vital said.

Morning Pointe of Lexington East, a 55,000-square-foot facility, will include 73 apartments and be built near St. Joseph's Hospital in Lexington.

The Lantern at Morning Pointe of Lexington will be adjacent to the existing Morning Pointe of Lexington on Ruccio and offer 44 apartments specifically designed for individuals with Alzheimer's and other memory care disorders.

"Lexington has positioned itself as the hub for quality health care services in eastern Kentucky, and Morning Pointe is proud to expand its senior care services in this growing market," Vital said in a statement Wednesday. "The Lantern wing at Morning Pointe of Lexington is currently full with a waiting list, so we are building to meet the demand for services."

Independent Healthcare Properties LLC, a Chattanooga-based senior healthcare services company, is the developer, owner and manager of 20 Morning Pointe Senior Care and The Lantern Alzheimer's Memory Care Center of Excellence communities in five Southeastern states.
