About 250 pot plants seized

JACKSON COUNTY, Ala. - One man was arrested and more than 250 pot plants seized Wednesday during raids across Jackson County, authorities say.

Timothy Centers, 34, of Rosalie, was charged with first-degree possession of marijuana and later released on $2,500 bond, according to a news release from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff' office Narcotics Unit and several other agencies conducted raids around the county, finding about 250 marijuana plants ranging from 1 foot to 15 feet in height, the release said.

Centers was arrested after about 10 small plants were found behind a residence on County Road 78, the release said.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. - A ground and air search Thursday revealed more than 70 marijuana plants growing near a home in DeKalb County.

Johnny Ray Wright, 55, and Linda R. Gibbs, 63, were arrested and charged with trafficking in cannabis and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a news release from the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department.

The DeKalb County Drug Task Force found 72 plants -- valued at about $144,000 street value -- outside of the home, and two pounds of marijuana and five firearms inside the home, according to the release.

Police: Theft was for bond money

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - A Johnson City man is accused of trying to finance his girlfriend's jail bond in unusual fashion -- burglary.

The Washington County Sheriff's office said deputies arrested 23-year-old Joseph Michael Lockner on Monday night after finding him in a house that had burned. Investigators said a check of Lockner's cellphone filled in the reason why he was there without the property owner's permission.

Former TVA worker takes plea

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - A former TVA Police employee has been sentenced to time served in plea agreement involving theft from the federal utility.

However, Cheryl E. Hall may face state charges in what prosecutors describe as an attempt to woo a married man with gifts of expensive weapons.

The plea agreement revealed Hall used a TVA credit card fraudulently to bilk the utility of more than $21,000. The agreement stated Hall bought 10 "extravagant firearms" for her lover and co-worker, who was not identified.
