Billings joins local law firm

Jeffery A. Billings has joined the Chattanooga law firm of Ramer & Hedrick, P.C.

He was formerly senior legal counsel with Life Care Centers of America Inc., the Cleveland, Tenn.-based nursing home, assisted living and independent living company.

Billings is a 1983 graduate of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and a 1987 graduate of Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law, Memphis State University. He has spent his career in the Chattanooga area, advising clients on a wide range of issues including general civil litigation, individual and business issues, as well as health care contracting and regulatory matters.

Long joins Hutton as general counsel

Catherine N. Long has joined the Hutton Co. as general counsel, according to company chief executive Karen J. Hutton.

She has experience and skills in real estate, construction and corporate law, including the acquisition and disposition of real estate.

Long is a graduate of the University of Maryland and Yale Law School. Most recently, she was an assistant general counsel at CBL & Associates Properties Inc.

"Catherine will be a tremendous asset to the Hutton Co. and to our clients as we continue our measured growth," said Hutton.

Excalibur adds Meyer

Stephen E. Meyer has been added to Excalibur Integrated Systems as vice president of engineering and development, said Rodger Jenkins, the company's president and chief executive.

"I am very happy to have Steve join our team at Excalibur," said Jenkins. "He is going to add additional experience, expertise and energy to our already highly skilled group of solution architects."

Meyer holds degrees from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and the University of Minnesota.

In 1996, he came to work with Volkert & Inc. of Chattanooga where he was an assistant vice president and program manager for intelligent transportation systems and traffic design and traffic operations for the Central Region of Volkert.

Franklin Wealth promotes two

Franklin Wealth Management LLC has promoted Tyler Thompson and Katie Keith.

Thompson has been promoted to business development coordinator after serving as marketing associate for two years. He holds a degree from Middle Tennessee State University.

Keith relocated from East Texas to join Franklin Wealth Management as registered operations assistant.

She has degrees from the University of North Texas and Kilgore College.

Scotchie wins Ameriprise honor

James M. Scotchie, a financial adviser with Ameriprise Financial, qualified for the 2012 Ameriprise National Conference in Denver by being one of the company's top advisers for production and client satisfaction. Scotchie's office is located at 6111 Shallowford Road in Chattanooga.

Webber is VP of East Tech Co.

Bret Webber was recently promoted to vice president of manufacturing at East Tech Co.

He joined the company in 2005 as a project engineer and became engineering manager in 2008.

After six years in the U.S. Navy, he attended Chattanooga State Community College where he holds a degree in mechanical engineering technology. He has over 20 years experience in welding, machining, manufacturing processes and design.

Grubbs chosen as fellow

Miller & Martin attorney Shelby Grubbs has become a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

The institute is a not-for-profit, United Kingdom-registered charity working in the public interest through an international network of branches. It has a global membership of around 12,500 individuals in over 110 countries who have professional training in private dispute resolution.

Grubbs has over 37 years practicing law in the area of civil litigation and dispute resolution. He has significant experience both as an advocate and as a dispute resolution neutral.

Harbin Clinic brings on Jackson

Cardiologist Dr. Charles "Chas" F. Jackson has joined the Harbin Clinic's Cardiology Department.

Jackson comes to Harbin Clinic from Emory University School of Medicine where he completed his fellowship training in cardiovascular medicine. He also completed an additional year of training in interventional cardiology and was selected to serve as chief interventional cardiology fellow.

While at Emory, Jackson also served as chief cardiology fellow at Grady Memorial Hospital.

He is a native of Cave Spring, Ga.

PRSA holds training event

The Public Relations Society of America, Lookout Chapter, will hold a special one-day event featuring media training, networking, a presentation on business partnerships and a choice of public relations-related breakout sessions.

Local, regional and nationally recognized professionals will lead the sessions on Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the DoubleTree Hotel in downtown Chattanooga.

The special pre-conference event -- especially targeted for local nonprofits and small businesses -- will kick off a three-day conference hosted by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Southeast District.

"We are fortunate to be able to extend this special professional development opportunity to local communicators," said Kevin Trowbridge, chairman of the conference programming committee.
