Tennessee coach Derek Dooley closed the door on Da'Rick Rogers' career in orange after the Volunteers' Monday-morning practice, and the former Calhoun (Ga.) High School star moved 100 miles west to continue his playing career.

Tennessee Tech officially confirmed the 6-foot-3, 205-pound junior receiver's transfer later Monday. The Golden Eagles have two other Calhoun alumni, Tre Lamb and Adam Urbano, at quarterback and running back.

They open the season Thursday night against Hampton.

"We might put him on the field Thursday. I just don't know," TTU coach Watson Brown said of Rogers, as quoted by The Tennessean of Nashville. "We'll practice tomorrow and see what he can learn in an hour and a half."

Brown said he talked to "a lot of people" who "vouched for" Rogers, "and after meeting with him and his family I am very comfortable with bringing him here."

Rogers said in a Tech release that "I see it as a new beginning."
