Chattanooga police took a homicide suspect into custody at the Hamilton County Courthouse on Friday in the fatal shooting of a fellow gang member.

Timothy Dewayne "OG Kokaine" Sexton, 29, faces charges of criminally negligent homicide, unlicensed carrying or possession of a weapon and five counts of reckless endangerment.

Barry Bowman, 22, was shot in the head Sept. 19 while sitting in the front seat of a Lexus SUV that Sexton was driving. According to the police report, Sexton drove to 6317 Walden St. and opened fire on a group of people.

Someone at the house returned fire, and Bowman was struck.

Sexton, who argued with other gang members before the shooting, drove Bowman to a hospital. Bowman died at Erlanger on Sept. 24.

Bowman and Sexton are members of the Tree Top Piru Blood gang, police say. Bowman's fiancee was in the Lexus during the shooting and told police Bowman had asked Sexton to drop him off so the two wouldn't be involved in the conflict. The report says Sexton ignored Bowman's request and his actions directly led to Bowman's death.

Sexton has a long list of prior convictions, according to court records.

Last month he was arrested on charges of domestic assault, possession of a controlled substance and driving on a suspended license.

While he was in the courthouse Friday, Sexton was spotted by Officer Lewis Davis and taken into custody.

Sexton is being held in the Hamilton County Jail on a $185,000 bond.
