Under Construction: New home soon for UTC's health, human performance

photo Work is under way to renovate the former Metropolitan Hospital building on McCallie Avenue. When the $4.6 million project is complete in summer 2013, the UTC Department of Health and Human Performance will move in to join the nursing program and television studios that are now in the building.

Usage: The renovated building will house the Department of Health and Human Performance at UTC, which is currently located in Maclellan Gymnasium

Cost: $4.6 million

Schedule: The work is expected to be completed in the spring of 2013

Project: The building annex that formerly housed the UTC television studio and UTC Student Health Services was demolished this summer. New entrances are being created on the Oak Street side of the building and the entire building is being re-faced with brick, new stucco and windows

History: UTC acquired the building in the 1990s from the owners of the former Metropolitan Hospital, a 64-bed hospital that grew out of an adjacent pediatrics clinic and Tepper Hospital that started in 1952
