The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds will fly over North Georgia at next year's Wings Over North Georgia Air Show in Rome, Ga., air show officials announced Tuesday.

The Thunderbirds feature an elite group of Air Force pilots who fly F-16 jets in air shows across the country. The pilots put their planes through difficult maneuvers and stunts.

This is the first time the Thunderbirds will fly at Wings Over North Georgia. John Cowman, president of JLC Air Show Management, said the pilots are some of the best in the country.

"The Thunderbirds put on one of the best shows in the business," he said. "We want to give our fans an experience they won't soon forget and the Thunderbirds are the best team to do just that."

In addition to the performance from the Thunderbirds, the air show will also feature family-friendly attractions on the ground and some civilian performers.

Show spokeperson Herb Gillen said organizers expect about 75,000 people to attend the two-day event.

"We're thrilled beyond belief to bring arguably one of the best teams to Rome, Ga.," he said. "It's going to be fabulous."

Wings Over North Georgia will happen at the Richard B. Russell Regional Airport on October 12 and 13, 2013. For more information on the show, visit www.wingsovernorthgeorgia.com.
