THINGS I WISH MY KIDS WOULD ASK ME

EDITOR'S NOTE: Barry Courter has a 23-year-old son who graduated from college last year and an 19-year-old daughter who is a freshman in college.

Q: Dad, my first semester of college is thankfully over, so what should I do over Christmas break?

A: Sleep. Have fun. Visit friends. Work if you can, but also after a week or so of doing nothing, take a few minutes to kind of review everything you've learned. Think about things you did right and things you did wrong and things you'd like to do differently next semester. A lot changes because of your new class schedule, but some things do not. The next semester should be a lot less hectic in many ways.
