Dayton Pike crash kills woman

A woman was killed around 10 a.m. Thursday in a single-car crash that injured two others on Dayton Pike near the intersection with Highway 153.

A southbound 2007 Toyota Camry went off the road and hit a tree, according to Hamilton County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Janice Atkinson.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Two others in the car were taken to the hospital.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing. The names of the victims will be released once the families have been notified, Atkinson said.


Toddler shot in Harrison

A 2-year-old was shot Thursday evening in Harrison, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. at 6568 River Stream Road. The child was taken to Children's Hospital, and his condition has not been released.

Neighbors told TV news crews that the child was handling his grandfather's gun when it fired and he accidentally shot himself in the side.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, public information officer Janice Atkinson said.


Soddy-Daisy man killed in wreck

A 24-year-old Soddy-Daisy man was killed early Thursday morning in a single-car crash in Hamilton County.

Garren Wayne Flippo was driving on Grasshopper Road when for unknown reasons he swerved off the road around 12:15 a.m. and hit an embankment, Hamilton County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Janice Atkinson said.

When the car hit the embankment, it turned over and then landed on its side.

Emergency workers had to extricate Flippo from the car, and despite lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the crash site, Atkinson said.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.


Man shot during robbery

The teenager who was robbed and shot Wednesday night has been identified as 19-year-old Lawarren Smith, according to Chattanooga police.

Smith was shot twice in the leg near 3800 Ninth Ave. around 10 p.m. Wednesday. His injuries are not life-threatening.

He told police two black men robbed him -- both were about 5 feet 11 inches tall; one man wore a white hoodie, and the other was dressed in all black during the attack, according to police.
