Student arrested after texting she would 'blow up' Ridgeland High School

A 16-year-old female student has been arrested after texting the phrase "blowing school up" to several friends at Ridgeland High School.

The text spread quickly Thursday among the Rossville student body and parents and Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson said they sent out two detectives and nine deputies to investigate throughout the day.

"It only took a minute for everybody to go crazy," over the text, Wilson said.

Detectives believe the motive behind the text was so the student could leave school early, Wilson said.

She was arrested and charged with terroristic threats and acts and will appear in Walker County Juvenile Court at a later date.
