Chattanooga gas prices below year ago

Chattanooga gas prices have ticked up from a week ago when they hit the lowest point of the year.

But AAA's daily fuel gauge survey Monday showed gas prices on Christmas Eve were still nearly four cents a gallon below a year ago and nearly 22 cents per gallon below the U.S. average.

AAA's survey of area service stations found the average price of gas Monday at just under $3.03 per gallon. Gas prices have risen an average of 2 cents a gallon in the past week but remain near the lowest point in the past year.

AAA predicts 93.3 million Americans will journey 50 miles or more away from home during the year-end holidays, up 1.6 percent from a year ago.
