Ice-cold plunge raises money for Cherokee Cabin

Feeling polar bear-ish? Cave Spring is offering a chance to indulge that feeling.

On Tuesday, Jan. 1, it's offering the Cave Spring Polar Plunge to help raise money for the purchase and restoration of the Cherokee Log Cabin. Brave souls can test the frigid waters of Rolater Lake, formerly known as the Cave Spring Pool.

The cost is $25 and registration begins at 10:30 a.m. with the plunge at 11 a.m.

Afterwards, shivering participants can take in a New Year's lunch in the nearby Hearn Classroom Building and also visit the other sights at Cave Springs, including more than 85 structures listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Cave Spring is located on Highway 411 between Rome, Ga., and Centre, Ala. For applications go to cavespringhistoricalsociety.com, or contact Mike Ragland at mrag@bellsouth.net or 706-777-3299; or Winnie Morrow at webmorrow@gmail.com at 706-777-8542. Online registration deadline is Saturday.
