The Cleveland girls' basketball team got a lot of help from a lot of people in Thursday's 56-40 win over Silverdale Baptist Academy in the Times Free Press Best of Preps tournament.

Sydnie Anderson had 25 points, while her sister -- freshman Shawnia -- added 11 along with 12 rebounds. The Lady Raiders forced 19 turnovers and pulled away late, outscoring SBA 16-5 in the final 6:35. They will face GPS in a semifinal tonight.

"Our main concern is our defense. It's supposed to be our calling card," Cleveland coach Mindy Kiser said. "We have to find a way -- especially in the half court -- to get people to turn over."

Some of the issues were self-inflicted, others caused by quick Silverdale point guard Mariah Massengill. The Eastern Kentucky signee broke down the Cleveland defense at times but had problems finishing against the Lady Raiders' length and finished with 22 points on 6-for-17 shooting.

The Abdullah-Muhammad sisters -- Atarah and Qetuwrah, track athletes who each is about 5-foot-10 -- helped in making things hard for Massengill.

Sloane Woodard hit a trio of 3s and finished with 13 points and six rebounds for the Lady Seahawks (7-4). Silverdale was 11-for-40 (27.5 percent) shooting.

The Lady Raiders (8-3) finished only 27 percent (16-for-59) from the floor but had 18 offensive rebounds, seven by Shawnia Anderson. Sophomore point guard Jenna Scoggins contributed two 3-pointers.

"We knew they would play zone against us because they couldn't match up with us man-to-man," Kiser said. "We missed a lot of shots early, especially around the rim, but I'm pleased with our effort.

"We're going to work on finishing at the rim, but for now it's one down and two more to go."
