Berry students named Gates Millennium Scholars

Four students at Berry College in Rome, Ga., have been named Bill and Melinda Gates Millennium Scholars.

The Gates Millennium Scholars Program annually selects 1,000 students nationwide to receive a scholarship for use at the college or university of their choice. The program provides scholars with personal and professional development through leadership programs and academic support.

The four Berry honorees are Rachel Rogers, Autumn Folse, Monica Maldonado and Jeffery Ramos.


Hamilton Place contest winners

Winners of the second student art competition sponsored by Hamilton Place were recently announced.

The contest's theme, "The Evolution of Fashion," paid tribute to the mall's 25th anniversary.

First- through third-place elementary school winners were Anthony Bell, Lilith Strider and Mahogeny Smith, all of Barger School.

Middle-school winners were Shelby Hudson and Shailey Shah, both of Chattanooga School for the Liberal Arts; and Lauren Neal of Red Bank Middle School.

High school winners were Tara Hemstreet, Red Bank; and Sabrina Pelzer, Ooltewah. Third-place went to a group of Ooltewah students: Shelby McMillian, Matthew Preston and Brittany Duggar.


Basic training graduates

• Air Force Airman 1st Class Lauren H. Hartman has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. She is the daughter of Stephanie Toney of Ringgold, Ga., and a graduate of Ringgold High School.

• Army Pfc. Franklin E. Wright has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. He is a graduate of Red Bank High School.
