Country star Vince Gill is honorary McMinn County investigator

photo After being in the works for a year, Grammy Award winning country music star Vince Gill recently accepted a McMinn County Sheriff's bade and oath of office. Gill is now an honorary narcotics investigator.

McMinn County Sheriff Joe Guy awarded country music star Vince Gill an honorary narcotics investigator badge to help raise awareness of drug abuse.

Guy said in a news release that he asked Gill a year ago to consider being part of the sheriff office's efforts to reduce meth labs.

"Vince's outstanding character makes him a perfect celebrity candidate for this appointment," Guy said. "His stance on drug abuse and his charity work go hand in hand."

McMinn was among Tennessee counties with the highest numbers of meth labs seized in 2009 and in 2010, but Guy said numbers fell in 2011.
