Two Monroe County men have been charged with bribing voters in a mayoral election last year, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said in a news release.

Chuck Hunt, 54, of Tellico Plains, was indicted on eight counts each of bribing and conspiring to bribe a voter, TBI spokeswoman Kristin Helm said in a news release.

Norman Nichols, 47, of Madisonville, was indicted on six counts each of bribery and conspiracy, the release stated.

Helm said the investigation began in September at the request of 10th Judicial District Attorney Steve Bebb.

Both were booked into the Monroe County Jail on $1,000 bond each.
