State and local authorities were drawn into the arrest of a Guild, Tenn., man in a shooting incident on Interstate 24 near the Jasper exit Thursday night, authorities said.

Trooper Scott Lewis charged Michael J. Odom, 62, of 1265 Hales Bar, with four counts of aggravated assault and one count of unlawful possession of a weapon, Department of Safety and Homeland Security spokeswoman Dalya Qualls said late Friday.

Jennifer Donnals, communications director for the Department of Safety, said dispatchers in the highway patrol's district office in Tiftonia received a report Thursday night from Marion County's 911 center that two pickup trucks were traveling west on I-24 near exit 155 and someone in one truck "was shooting at the other pickup truck."

"We had some units near the 155 exit," Donnals said. "Both vehicles took that exit, and THP and the Marion County Sheriff's Office stopped the complainant's vehicle and another THP unit and the Jasper Police Department stopped the suspect."

The trooper handling the investigation could not be reached Friday.

Marion County Jail officials said Odom remains in custody and no bond has been set.

Donnals said authorities recovered two firearms from Odom's car and one spent shell casing, but she said she wasn't sure what kind of firearm was used.

Investigators said the shell casing matched the caliber of one of the weapons recovered, according to Donnals. She said she was unsure how many people were in f the two vehicles.

There were no injuries, and no vehicles were damaged, she said.
