Three in dual finals

FRANKLIN, Tenn. -- Banged here and bruised there they might have been, Chattanooga teams captured three of the premium spots and just missed on two others in the first day of the Tennessee state duals.

High-scoring Central, which lost just one of 28 Friday matches, moved into the Class A/AA championship while Soddy-Daisy and Cleveland advanced to the Class AAA semifinals. Baylor and McCallie fell in the Division II semis, leaving that crown to the Father Ryan-Christian Brothers winner.

Hixson, scrapping for an A/AA finals spot opposite Central, and Baylor made it as close as they possibly could. Both the Wildcats' match with Pigeon Forge and the Red Raiders' meet with top-ranked Christian Brothers came down to the last bout. Pigeon Forge needed a pin to win and got it and Baylor needed at least a technical fall to tie and win on criteria and came up short by a meager three individual match points of that tech after giving up a late takedown.

The duals finals will begin at the Williamson County Agricultural Expo at 8:30 EST.
