Lady Mocs win 30th in row over Wofford, 51-39

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's basketball team started off its final two-game road trip of the season with a win Saturday night at Benjamin Johnson Arena.

The Lady Mocs went on a run to close the first half and were in control throughout most of the second in their 51-39 Southern Conference victory over Wofford. That's 30 in a row against the Terriers, who last beat UTC in February 1999.

UTC, which visits Furman on Monday, remains a game back of league-leading Appalachian State in the conference.

Whitney Hood led UTC (16-6, 11-2) with 10 points and seven rebounds after missing nearly all of Monday's win over Elon with a sore knee.

Kylie Lambert had struggled in some recent games, but she was on form Saturday with nine points and eight rebounds. Kayla Christopher also was busy with eight points and five rebounds.

UTC closed the first half on a 19-8 run and led Wofford (10-12, 3-10) 30-19 at the break. The Lady Mocs threatened to blow the game open a couple of times, only to see the Terriers hang around.

Daniella Motley led Wofford with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

The lead was 40-33 with 7:45 to play. That's when UTC finally shut the door, getting a free throw from Hood, a three-point play from Lambert and a 3-pointer from Christopher to make it 47-33 with 5:14 remaining.

The Lady Mocs hit only four of their first 14 shots from the field and finished the game 19-of-54 (35.2 percent). UTC would certainly like to shoot a higher percentage, but that's nowhere near the rough day the College of Charleston had at home against Davidson on Saturday. In Davidson's 46-23 win, the Cougars scored four points in the first half and hit 6 of 60 shots in the game.
