NASHVILLE -- The Baylor swim teams both hold narrow leads over Nashville challengers after Friday's portion of the state championships. The Baylor girls have 177 points to 165 for Harpeth Hall, while the Baylor boys have 141 points to 132 for second-place Montgomery Bell Academy.

The best event for local schools Friday was the girls' 1-meter diving, where Signal Mountain's Marissa Roth edged GPS's Mary Portera for first place, 414.35 points to 408.70, and Baylor's Emily Pelletier was third with 384.95.

The Baylor girls got first-place finishes from Bria Deveaux in the 50 freestyle, in 23.54 seconds, Kimberlee John-Williams in 54.96 in the 100 butterfly and the 200 medley relay with Hannah Peiffer, Mikaya Reynolds, Ashley Yearwood and Kristen Vredeveld combining for a 1:43.92.

Yearwood was third in the 50 free, Peiffer was fourth in the 200 individual medley and Emel Lochmaier was eighth in the 200 free. Baylor's Annika Kollevol and Madison Pritchard were fifth and seventh in the 100 fly, and McCay Mathis and Kristen Myers from fifth-place GPS (53 points) were sixth and eighth.

Baylor's Christian Carbone won the boys' 200 IM in 1:48.62, and his brother Joey was third in the 100 fly with teammate Luke Kaliszak seventh. Sam McHugh was second in the 200 free, and Kaliszak, Dustin Tynes, Christian Carbone and Matthew Chen were second in the medley relay. Chandle Hinson and Connor King had eighth-place finishes for the Aqua Raiders.

Michael Zuppa was fourth and Ryan Forsthoffer was eighth in the 50 free for McCallie, which is ninth in the standings.
