The Cleveland State men's basketball team upset Chattanooga State 78-69 in TCCAA play Saturday in Chattanooga, after the host Lady Tigers won 76-58 despite trailing at halftime.
Travis Jones and Nick Ross scored 26 and 25 points for the winning Cougars (11-11, 5-9), countering the 26 by Chattanooga State's 6-foot-10 Byron Trench. Trench had 19 points in the first half for the Tigers (12-9, 7-7).
Hidaayah Williams scoed 20 points and Jasmain Carey and April Woodard added 17 each for the Lady Tigers (17-4, 10-4). Shanavian Woodland scored 18 and Morgan Rogers added 12 for the Lady Cougars (9-14, 3-11).
Tennessee Wesleyan's first-place Appalachian Athletic Conference teams both won at Milligan. Leah Frazier paced the 18th-ranked Lady Bulldogs' 78-71 victory with 19 points, Michelle Davis adding 14 and Cody Houck contributing 12 points and seven rebounds. Chattanoogan Kayla Kelly paced Milligan with 22 points and five assists.
The Wesleyan men won 100-87 with Matt Harper and Desmond Crisp scoring 24 points apiece and Quincy Scates adding 21. Kyle Grisby scored 23 for the Buffaloes.
Lee's Flames beat Truett-McConnell 75-65 in Cleveland, Ga., after the Lady Flames, ranked No. 4 in NAIA Division I, whipped the Lady Bears 89-32 to go to 25-1, 17-0 in the Southern States Athletic Conference. Anthony Dorsey had 32 points for the Truett-McConnell men, but the Flames got balance with 15 and 13 points from Alex Wells and Duran Blue, 12 points and five assists from Ryan Westbrooks and 10 points and nine rebounds from Tyrone Caldwell.
The Flames trailed 38-26 at halftime and finally went ahead late with Johnny Godette cramming a jam and adding three quick points to begin the surge.
Jessie Blankenship had 20 points and 14 rebounds in the Covenant women's 54-42 win at Wesleyan College in Macon, Ga., and Margaret Cross added 14 points.
Back at Covenant, the Scots edged Tennessee Temple 64-63 as Callum Sears scored 15 points and T.J. Cox and Damien Chaney added 12 and 11. Germeil Daniels scored 20 points and Jarrett Smith had 16 plus 10 assists for Temple, which trailed 63-57 with 2:23 to go but tied it at 63 on a Daniels dunk with 28 seconds left. A Cox free throw at 0:03 won it.
Bryan's Lady Lions lost in double overtime to visiting Bluefield, 86-79, despite 24 points by Anna Thomas and 17 by Bethany McArthur. Rob Riley and Tim Fortenberry scored 14 and 13 points in the Bryan men's 80-56 loss.
Alex Miller and Justin Dempsey scored 15 points apiece and Ben Patton added 14, but the Georgia Northwestern Bobcats fell to 76-65 to visiting Emory-Oxford after leading 43-32 at halftime. Kevin Tolbert led the visitors with 19 points.
