Gordon County murder update: Death was apparent patricide

The victim of a Monday afternoon slaying has been identified as Steve Rhinehart of Ranger, Ga., who apparently died from multiple gunshot wounds at the hand of his son Matthew Rhinehart.

Gordon County Sheriff Mitch Ralston says that shots were fired after the pair got into a domestic dispute. Officers were directed to the scene by a 911 caller and they arrested Matthew Rhinehart on the spot.

Father, age 62, and son, age 35, are thought to have lived together at 179 Rhinehart Drive in Ranger.

Matthew Rhinehart is being held in Gordon County Jail. He is expected to be charged with murder, Ralston said.
