Volkswagen is taking applications for its Automotive Mechatronics Program training class for 2012.

The apprenticeship program will select 24 candidates, which is up from 20 last year. Students will be split into two training classes with an improved student-teacher ratio of 12 to 1.

"Volkswagen's presence in this community has increased our area's need for a skilled automotive workforce," said Hans-Herbert Jagla, VW's executive vice president of human resources in Chattanooga.

Applications will be accepted until March 31. For more information, visit www.chattanoogastate.edu/ttc/programs/mechatronics.
