Marion County residents now will receive their ambulance services from Puckett EMS, a local private company, instead of Grandview EMS.

County commissioners awarded a five-year contract to Puckett, which now will provide two 24-hour advanced life support services to the area starting today.

The shift comes after Grandview Medical Center decided to focus its efforts on its other services, CEO Bruce Baldwin said in a news release.

"By taking a step back from the EMS service and working cooperatively with the Puckett EMS, Grandview Medical Center can better and more effectively focus on what we do best, which is provide care for our patients in a safe, healing environment," he said.

Three of five companies that submitted requests for proposals were interviewed by the Marion County ambulance committee before it unanimously chose Puckett, one of 140 EMS services accredited nationwide by the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services.

"I think they chose us because of our record of providing leading emergency care," Puckett spokesman Craig Stanley said.

Some Grandview EMS personnel will have the opportunity to transition to Puckett's services, he said.

Marion County now joins West Cobb and Dade counties in Georgia and Chattanooga as areas in which Puckett provides services. There will be a fee for any patient services.

"We appreciate the opportunity to serve the citizens of Marion County," Puckett President Steve Puckett said in a news release. "We take the responsibility seriously and we are committed to providing the highest quality care possible through a level of high professionalism and compassion."
