Jubilee Day celebration marks signing of Emancipation Proclamation

Some Chattanoogans today commemorated the anniversary of the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation at the Chattanooga-Hamilton County NAACP branch’s annual Jubilee Day celebration

The event was held at Phillips Temple Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Chattanooga. The Rev. Cheryl Jones Goliday, pastor, spoke passionately on the theme, “still in crisis.”

Goliday argued that even as Jubilee Day is celebrated, there is still a need for more civic participation.

“We cannot continue to be complacent,” she said.
