After nearly a year in Kuwait, soldiers with the Chattanooga-based 230th Sustainment Brigade will return to Tennessee Wednesday afternoon.

Tennessee Army National Guard spokesman Nate Crawford confirmed that the majority of the more than 1,500 soldiers will return by bus from Camp Shelby, Miss.

The unit left for Fort Bliss, Texas, on Jan. 8, 2011 and soon after deployed to Kuwait. The brigade's mission was to coordinate the withdrawal of troops and equipment for the southern half of Iraq as U.S. forces exited the country.

Chattanooga-area family members of the unit will hold a homecoming at the Chattanooga National Armory on Holtzclaw Avenue.

Buses will depart the Mississippi camp Wednesday morning and are scheduled to arrive in the following cities at these times:

Millington, Tenn. - 2:30 p.m. CST

Smyrna, Tenn. - 4 p.m. CST

Chattanooga - 4:30 p.m. EST

Knoxville - 6:30 p.m. EST
