A Bradley County man burned in a flash fire is accused of cooking meth and faces multiple felony charges after flames spread to two adjacent apartments, officials say.

Christopher Nathaniel Goodspeed, 27, has been charged with the manufacture of methamphetamine, promotion of the manufacture of methamphetamine, having a prohibited device and 16 counts of reckless endangerment, said Bob Gault, spokesman for the Bradley County Sheriff's Office.

In General Sessions Court today, Goodspeed's bond was set at $15,000 and his next hearing was scheduled for Tuesday.

The Cleveland Fire Department received a neighbor's 911 call Monday night that smoke was coming from Unit 8 of the complex, located at 320 Country Club Drive, Gault said.

Goodspeed lives in the apartment but no one was there when firefighters arrived, Gault said.

After learning a burn victim was at the emergency room of SkyRidge Medical Center and the fire possibly involved the manufacture of meth, the fire department alerted the Bradley County Sheriff's Office Drug Enforcement Unit, Gault said.

Investigators say Goodspeed was cooking meth in the bathroom when a bottle he was using split and burst into flames.

He received burns to one arm and hand and tried to put the fire out without success, Gault said. Investigators say he then left the apartment without notifying the people in 16 other apartments in the building, Gault said.

Firefighters contained the fire, but not before it damaged residences above and next to Goodspeed's apartment, said Gault.

Others were evacuated by the fire department and at least three people were treated by emergency medical service personnel at the scene, Gault said.
