WPLZ-FM radio adopts country format

Chattanooga radio station WPLZ-FM switched its format this week from news and talk to country music. Billed as the new "Cat Country 95.3," WPLZ's new programming is targeted at younger country listeners, many of whom listened to "The Duke" country station before it switched to 107.9 Big FM, and others who listen to Chattanooga's top-rated station, US-101, WUSY-FM.

"A year ago when 'The Duke' left the format, they left a huge audience without a home," said Jim Brewer II, president of Brewer Media, which owns WPLZ. "Cat Country will just be playing music initially and then introducing an on-air staff in the coming weeks."
