A former correctional officer with the Silverdale Detention Facility has been arrested after a grand jury indicted her on charges of having a sexual relationship with an inmate.

Tammy DeShawn Jackson, 32, has been charged with sexual contact with an inmate and official misconduct, according to an indictment filed in Hamilton County Criminal Court in December.

The indictment states that the contact occurred in September.

Corrections Corporation of America, which manages the Silverdale Correctional Facility for Hamilton County, fired Jackson in September following an investigation, spokeswoman Brandi Kennedy said.

"We take very seriously the treatment of inmates entrusted to our care. We view deviations from our high standards of professional contact gravely," Kennedy said in an emailed statement.

Jackson had been working as a correctional officer at Silverdale since June 2011, Kennedy said.

Jackson is the second Silverdale jailer in four months arrested on charges of illegal behavior in the facility.

In October, 20-year-old Jesse Weddell was arrested after she admitted smuggling 20 grams of marijuana into the jail for an inmate.
