Former Marion County football coach Troy Boeck joining Signal Mountain's staff

Former Marion County football coach Troy Boeck will be at Signal Mountain when the Eagles start spring practice.

Boeck, who will start at the school on Feb. 20, will be coaching the offensive line, according to head coach Bill Price.

"He gives us another experienced coach, and he may also work with the defensive front," Price said Monday, adding that the Eagles might be bringing on two more assistants. "We hope to hire at least one more assistant soon, and it might be a couple. It could be at a variety of positions depending on how things work out."

Price said Bumper Reese would take over as defensive coordinator. The former Red Bank standout replaces Mac McCurry, the new coach at Marion County.

McCallie, GPS No. 1

McCallie (12-0) and GPS (14-2) are No. 1 among Division II teams in the first Tennessee high school basketball poll for the 2011-12 season.

Tyner's boys are fourth in Class AA. In Class AAA and Class AA, Ooltewah and Sequatchie County were listed among those receiving votes. Bradley Central is the fourth-ranked Class AAA girls' team, and defending champion McMinn Central is No. 6 in Class AA.

5 ranked from area

The Chattanooga area has five of the top seven teams in the latest Tennessee prep wrestling coaches' poll. Soddy-Daisy is No. 2, Cleveland No. 4, Baylor No. 5, McCallie No. 6 and Bradley Central No. 7.

Central finished second in its wrestling invitational tournament Saturday, falling 2.5 points shy of winner Arab, Ala., which scored 194 points. Those teams ran away from the rest of the field with third-place Tyner scoring 105 points.

All games count

The TSSAA has sent a clarification of Hall of Champions basketball games, saying that while they are optional games the results should be counted in teams' win-loss records.

In a release to the media TSSAA executive dDirector Bernard Childress said, "To be clear, there is nothing in the TSSAA Handbook or sports regulations that addresses how wins/losses should be counted for any sport. We do not feel there is a need for there to be simply because schools should count all wins and losses during the regular season on their record, as they do in all sports."
