Lee University basketball teams sweep Truett-McConnell

CLEVELAND, Tenn. -- First met worst in Southern States Athletic Conference women's basketball Monday evening, and it wasn't pretty.

Especially not for the visiting Truett-McConnell team. The Lady Bears lost 87-19 to first-place Lee University, the seventh-ranked team in NAIA Division I.

Lee then completed the sweep with an 80-70 men's win.

Angela Spann scored 18 points in only 17 minutes for the Lady Flames (17-1, 9-0), enough to put her over the 1,000-mark to 1,007 for her college career. Hollie German and Julia Zimmerman added 12 points each, and Karley Miller had 11 points with a game-high nine rebounds. Kally Eldridge made four of Lee's 18 steals.

Kelsey Montgomery led the Cleveland, Ga., team with 10 points. The Lady Bears (1-16, 0-8) committed 33 turnovers while Lee had 14.

Steve Bennett and Tyrone Caldwell had 16 points apiece and eight and six rebounds for the Lee men (12-3, 7-2), and Alex Wells and Johnny Godette each tallied 10 points. Wells and Caldwell added four assists each, and Duran Blue and Godette each made three steals.

Anthony Dorsey was the night's top scorer with 28 points for the Bears (9-10, 4-5). Bernard Niugent and Roderick Bombard scored 19 and 13 and also contributed four and five assists with three steals apiece.
