The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's tennis team evened its 2012 record at 1-1 with a 6-1 win Sunday at the Racquet Club against Tennessee Tech. The Mocs won three three-set singles matches and had one tiebreaker victory in each of their other two singles wins. Roberto Vieira, Chris Smith, Ankit Chopra, Jackson Tresnan and Pavels Grigorjevs swept Nos. 1-5 singles for UTC, and Chopra with Stephen Crofford won in doubles along with the duo of Tresnan and Grigorjevs. Chopra was down 5-2 in the third set and won it 7-5 to clinch the team triumph. "We have matured a lot during the offseason. It was nice to see us display that maturity on the court today," coach Carlos Garcia said. "We closed out a lot of close matches and had guys come back from big deficits.

Basketball

• One night after pulling off its first victory over Trinity University in eight years, the Sewanee men's basketball team defeated Southwestern 61-55 on Saturday, reaching double-digit wins for the first time in over a decade. It was the 10-6 Tigers' fifth home win in a row. They are 5-4 in the SCAC. Robert Veal had 14 points and eight rebounds and Tyler Brown added 13 rebounds with 12 points for Sewanee.

• Tennessee Wesleyan split an AAC basketball doubleheader Saturday at Reinhardt. The TWC women (13-6, 7-2) won 65-46 as Leah Frazier, Cody Houck and Heather Gibson scored 12, 11 and 10 points, Houck with eight rebounds, but the Bulldogs (12-9, 6-2) lost 76-69 despite 19 points from Quincy Scates, 16 points and 14 rebounds from Matt Harper and 15 points from Desmond Crisp. The Lady Bulldogs host Tennessee Temple this evening.

• The Tennessee Temple men's basketball team won 57-54 at Macon State on Saturday and will be home against Lee University on Tuesday.

• Georgia Northwestern's Bobcats host the Clayton State junior varsity Tuesday night at the Rossville Athletic Complex. On Friday the Bobcats won 83-78 at Johnson University with Dade County's Ben Patton setting GNTC records with nine 3-point baskets and 27 points in a half. He totaled 33 with 9-of-11 success on 3s, and Matt Woods tied a Bobcats record with five steals.

Fishing

• The UTC duo of Robby Crosslin and James Childers finished 14th out of 42 teams in the National Guard FLW College Fishing season-opening bass tournament Saturday on Lake Okeechobee in Florida. They weighed a limit of five fish totaling 7 pounds, 13 ounces. Indian River State College won with 15-7, and Auburn was second with 12-15. Middle Tennessee State's Andrew Agee and Matt Allen were sixth with 11-4, and Tennessee Tech's Ryan Harpe and Chris Thomas were ninth with 9-10.
