Richard Aerni, Ed Cook and Joe Parrot are the featured artists at River Gallery during February. Their exhibit, "Paint and Glaze," combines miniature and impasto paintings with decorative and functional pottery.

Aerni, a potter from New York, focuses on texture and form. Since 1979, he has honed his skills and chosen ash glazes and the process of single firing as markers for the parameters of his work.

Cook is a painter from Illinois who has a love of nature. Rural landscapes, old buildings, barns, streams and waterfalls inspire him. He portrays his subjects in miniature -- small-scale, jewel-like acrylic paintings.

Parrot finds inspiration on every street corner, he says. The Tennessee artist is captivated by the interplay of light and shadow and uses thick brushstrokes or impasto to capture architecture and the landscape.

"Paint and Glaze" will remain on view through February. A reception will be held Friday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. (snow date: Saturday, 2-4 p.m.). All three artists will be present, and Cook will conduct a painting demonstration of his miniatures on Saturday.
