One firefighter was injured Wednesday while fighting a large house fire at 705 Creek Drive.

The call went out at 9 a.m. and Capt. Craig Haney said he could see smoke from Mountain Creek Road while responding from Station 17 on Signal Mountain Boulevard, according to a news release. Five companies responded to the fire.

Smoke and fire were visible from the attic when crews arrived. They were able to keep the blaze from spreading, the release stated.

Senior firefighter Traci Dossett was injured when water flowing into a high-pressure line made a hose coupling spring up in the air, striking above her left eye. Dossett was taken to Erlanger hospital, where she was treated with stitches.

Chattanooga Fire Department spokesman Bruce Garner said two adults, two teenagers and a dog lived in the large, two-story house. All escaped without injury.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
