A new festival is being launched Saturday in Mentone, Ala., but it's actually a redo of a former favorite (Colorfest).

"Same sort of setup and presentation by the Mentone Area Arts Council," explained Mentone resident Harriet O'Rear.

JulyFest is a summer block party being held in Mason Park with something to entertain all ages of the family. There will be arts and crafts vendors, bluegrass music and $10 barbecue plates sold by Old Tymer's Barbeque in the Mentone Inn.

The arts council is partnering with the Humane Society and Animal Resources of DeKalb County, Ala., to put on a pet parade and adoption fair Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Entrance fee is $10, and proceeds will be donated to the Humane Society. Following the parade, festivalgoers can bid in a silent auction containing artwork by MACC members.

Music is scheduled Saturday and Sunday afternoons at either the Mason Park Gazebo or Mentone Inn.

Saturday's performers are Nicole Jones (guitar), 11 a.m.; Chris Hale (banjo), 1 p.m.; Foggy Hollow (bluegrass), 3 p.m.; Nature's Way Band (classic rock), 5 p.m.; Stranded Band (country rock), 7 p.m.

Singer/songwriter Matt Jones will play from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

O'Rear said that during Jones' show, a silent auction of a painting by nationally known artist Tres Taylor, who resides in Mentone part of each year, will be held in the MACC tent near the entrance to Mason Park.
