Volunteer Energy Cooperative today said it is still working to restore electric power to customers in the region who had service knocked out by storms last night.

It said that as many as 14,000 customers in its 17-county service area had lost power when storms moved through the region Thursday night.

Its count on power outages as of mid-morning is as follows:

— Bradley: 2,448

— Hamilton: 815

— McMinn: 1,969

— Polk: 1,089

— Meigs: 484

— Rhea: 200

— Roane: 468

VEC Vice President of Operations Clyde Jolley said he is hopeful that power will be restored to a majority of customers by late this evening, but noted some may continue without power until Saturday.
