Mercury Nashville/19 Recordings/Interscope artist Lauren Alaina's new single, "Eighteen Inches," is being released today.

The song was co-written by Hixson High School alum Kelley Lovelace, Ashley Gorley and country superstar Carrie Underwood.

"It's amazing to have an artist like Carrie Underwood, whom I look up to so much, write my single," said Alaina. "I feel so honored to be able to bring to life the beautiful story within the song."

"It's so wonderful when a song you had a hand in writing finds the perfect home," Underwood said in a news release. "Lauren's voice tells the story of 'Eighteen Inches' beautifully. What an incredible talent!"

This is a big week for Alaina.

On Sunday, the Teen Choice Awards air at 8 p.m. on Fox. The 17-year-old Rossville native is nominated for two Teen Choice trophies: Choice Female Country Artist and Choice TV Female Reality Star for "American Idol."

"Eighteen Inches" is Alaina's third single, following "Georgia Peaches" and "Like My Mother Does" from her debut album, "Wildflower."

Dixie Owen, Universal Music publicist, said "Wildflower" was No. 2 on Billboard's Top Country Album chart and No. 5 on the Billboard Top 200. Owen said that made Alaina the youngest female to debut that high on the Billboard charts since LeAnn Rimes' debut 15 years ago and the best-selling country female debut since 2006.

Alaina is opening for Sugarland on the duo's "In Your Hands" tour this summer.
